Collaborative Family Law

Collaborative Family Law is a child-focused, non-adversarial and team-based approach to resolving family law disputes.

The parties work with a team of trained professionals, including lawyers and, where appropriate, a divorce or parenting coach, a child specialist and/or a financial specialist. In this model, parties agree – and sign a formal participation agreement – to use a cooperative approach with a firm commitment to avoid court. In this process, information is voluntarily and transparently disclosed to allow parties to work together to make long-lasting agreements best suited for themselves and their children.

All professionals working within Collaborative Family Law must have extra training in order to work with parties using cooperative and collaborative strategies to create solutions addressing both parties’ values and goals. This training, which takes over 70 hours to complete, includes sessions on the collaborative approach, mediation, communication, negotiation, and family violence.

Kendra is a fully trained Collaborative Family Lawyer and a member of Victoria Collaborative Separation Family Professionals, the British Columbia Collaborative Roster Society, and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. If you are interested in working within a Collaborative Family Law process for your family law matter, please book a consult with Kendra to discuss.
