Juniper Law was founded by Kendra Marks (they/she) in 2023. She is experienced at representing clients in negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and court, and they regularly appear at the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia.
Kendra is an apprentice member of the Collaborative Family Law Group, the Victoria Bar Association, and the Canadian Bar Association. Kendra’s legal practice also draws as much as possible on the principle of harm reduction – practicing law in a colonial framework can never truly be anti-colonial, and as we dismantle colonialism and build frameworks rooted in Indigenous law Kendra hopes we can also work to prevent harm in all the work that we do.
Kendra holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree and a Master of Arts degree, both from the University of Calgary in Mohkínstsis on the territories of the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Îyâxe Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina Nations, territory which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.
Kendra received their Juris Doctor degree from the University of Victoria on W̱SÁNEĆ territories in 2019 and her major paper for her JD, “Inheriting Relationships: Reimagining the Practice of Estates and Trusts Through Anishinaabe Stories About Plants,” was completed under the supervision of Professor John Borrows.
During law school, Kendra held several research assistant positions and also provided research in the area of trusts and family law for Michelle Kinney and Christine Murray. Kendra spent her 2L summer at Horne Coupar LLP, a well-known Victoria law firm on Lək̓ʷəŋən territories, and in 2019-2020 they returned for articles at that firm under the supervision of Fiona Hunter.
